Answers

1. What is FTTH?

FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) is a state-of-the-art fiber optic infrastructure that brings communication services directly to customers homes from a local service distribution station.  This type of technology is the one of the few “future proof” communications delivery systems, capable of bringing ultra-fast broadband connections, home telephone and TV service to residents and business locations. 2. How does GTel Fiber benefit surrounding towns?

As with any utility, having the most capable and reliable infrastructure provides more value to the community and it’s residents. Having the option for unlimited broadband capacity attracts businesses that require large amounts of bandwidth for their operations. This may be the same case for residential customers. Customers are constantly needing and demanding higher amounts of bandwidth in their homes. This fiber investment prepares us all for what’s to come in the future. Back to Top ^

3. Is this GTel’s first time offering fiber to the home?

No, we have been offering fiber to many of our communities in the area since 2009.  Germantown Telephone Company also partnered with 13 other telcos across New York State in 2004 to form a statewide redundant fiber optic network.  The Independent Optical Network (ION) provides telecommunications transport and Internet backbone services throughout New York State’s telcos as well as any business requiring fiber transport and backbone services. 5. What is the process to get fiber to my house/neighborhood?

After enough interest in shown for a particular neighborhood (through filling out this form), we will start the Pre-Registration phase to determine the level of commitment by a prospective Fiberhood.

During Pre-Registration, we will survey potential homes in the area to determine how many households are interested in our new fiber optic network and are serious about taking advantage of our services.

After we have reached our commitment requirements for a prospective Fiberhood, we will begin construction on your fiber network!  Back to Top ^

6. Is GTel building in a particular area or everywhere?

We are currently gauging interest in our awarded service areas.  Our actual construction plans will be to complete our express fiber construction first, these are the fibers that are run along the road.  The BPO (Broadband Program Office) requires these fibers to be built and connected by the end of 2018 in order for us to receive the funding for the build.  Once we have reached a certain point with the express fiber construction, based on the interest we receive from potential neighborhoods, we will begin connecting homes to the fiber network.    Back to Top ^

7. Is there a term contract to sign?

GTel has always run our business with no gimmick pricing or long-term commitments.  We will offer discounts on installation costs and price guarantees for customers who commit to our services during specific phases of our build.  It’s not a contract with GTel, but it is a price guarantee from GTel to you! Back to Top ^

8. What is Pre-Registration?

Pre-Registration is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you.  During Pre-Registration, we will contact potential homes in a prospective Fiberhood to determine how many households are interested in our new fiber optic network, and are serious about taking advantage of our services.  If you commit to our services during this time, there will be discounted installation costs and price guarantees.  We are able to offer these discounts at certain times because if we target construction and installation in one area, allowing us to better schedule installations and increase our productivity among our workforce.

9. Whats better, fiber optic, cable, DSL, or wireless?

Fiber optic is the fastest broadband option available; it is not shared and provides far greater speeds and less latency to enhance your experience.  If you use the Internet in any way and have the opportunity to sign up for fiber, you should! You will not be disappointed.  We will work with you to meet your communication and entertainment needs and switch your current services to GTelFiber. We want you to enjoy your experience with GTel! Back to Top ^

10. If I switch my telephone service to GTel, do I get to keep my same phone number?

Absolutely!  We will transfer your telephone number to GTel and you do not need to do a thing.  Once the number is moved, it automatically notifies your current provider and they will stop their billing.  Back to Top ^
